Summer break begins! Yay! :)

No more preschool!  No more 2nd grade!  We're done!  Now we're on summer break - Yay!

Bethany, Suzan, Anna and Brielle all ready for summer break to begin!  We already pulled out our flip flops today ;)  Bethany was asking me this morning "mama, when are we going to summer break?"  Ha!  Cute! :)
Jared, home from his last day as a 2nd grader.  **sniff, sniff**  This Mama was tearing up just watching his class's end-of-year picture slide show at the class party.  They are growing up too fast!
FYI, I thought this was a cute idea by one of the room moms in Jared's class.  She got a bunch of beach balls and Sharpies and then had the kids sign each other's beach ball, sort of like a yearbook signing.  What a fun and meaningful idea!  That way the kids will be playing with their beach balls this summer and be reminded of their friends (and teacher!) from 2nd grade.  So sweet!

So yes, our summer break begins!  Lots of summer fun awaits us!  Yay! :D  Hope you all enjoy the beginnings of your summer!

Calling all bakers!

For a long time, I've been wanting a bread maker.  I know I can make bread without a maker, just kneading it by hand, in a food processor or with my mixer and then plopping the dough it into a loaf pan and baking in my oven.  Yet still, I wanted a bread maker :)  However, I couldn't fork out the $$ for one and didn't trust CL to find one.  Well, after I recently signed up for Freecycle (like CL but folks post and give away things for free, things they would normally toss in the trash or donate) I lucked out.  Someone posted a bread maker, albeit a used and old one.  So I snatched it up :)
It's a Welbilt ABM350-2 model.  Before picking it up, I asked the owner if it worked and she said she didn't know, just that she received it from her mom yet never used it.  I still thought it was worth it.  It was free!  Oh, it also didn't come with the manual/recipe book but she did throw in some other bread cookbooks.

Jared went along with me to get it.  He was so excited for it.  Then after we got it home, I washed it up, found some recipes and decided to try it out for the first time, he was SUPER excited.  This was our first loaf.  It's a honey oats recipe I found online for another Welbilt bread maker.  He and I were quite excited and pleased with how it turned out!  It tasted very good too :)  He laughed at the shape of it - Ha! ;)
So now, I ask our friends, family and anyone who follows our blog here if you have any good bread maker recipes. I'm looking for bread-specific recipes. I know there are lots of recipes of mixing and rising dough for pizza and cinnamon rolls and the such, which is okay but I want bread. Glorious bread! ;)

From my research on this model (very limited info of it online!), I believe it's a 1-pound machine. And that's the recipe I used for the honey oats.

So, do you have any favorite bread recipes? If so, please post them in the comments section. I'd appreciate anything you might have on hand :) Thanks!

Nice Shootin' Suz

One of the advantages of having an older brother ;)  Instead of watching Netflix "Cake Boss" with her sisters, brother, dad and mom Suzan wanted to do this...

First loading it
Then aiming
And then shootin' (notice the little disc that is flying out of the NERF gun)
She did this several times.  This little girl makes me laugh and always keeps us on our toes ;)

Fingerprint frame

I wracked my brain on what to give/make for the girlies' teacher as an end-of-year gift.  So, I came up with this.
A finger/thumbprint frame, in her favorite color (red). Each girl made something different with their fingers and thumbs. I hope Miss E enjoys it! :)

Baseball is is summer comes!

Yes, just as fast as our baseball season started, now it has ended.  We had a good team and lots of fun this year!  I know I will miss seeing the kids play ball!

Yes, I got some pictures of Jared's last game (just today).  Yay! :)  And his official individual and team pictures.  Check them out!

The team and coaches.  We had 5 girls on the team this year.  Very cool!

The last game.  Jared in outfield.

Our little ball player :D

Now with baseball over, what are we going to do?  School is almost over too.  Only a few days left!  Then, we head into summer.  We have...swimming lessons for all 5 kids, a visit from cousin Tyler planned, a science camp for Jared for a few weeks, a summer Bible study for Mama, our FIRST TIME camping (Ack!  Wish us luck! ;D ), hopefully lots of playing with friends and swimming in our own pool and the city's pool.  Fun, fun!

Appreciating our teachers!

Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week.  The kids had fun making cards, bringing goodies and giving their teachers a special picture.  All 5 of them love their teachers and aides! :)

Jared's picture to his teacher. He's wearing his class's Field Day shirt :)
The girlies picture for their teacher and aides. Their teacher said she LOVED getting the card they made and this picture. It made her day! :)
We are SO blessed to have such wonderful teachers for our kiddos!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to you moms out there! The moms-to-be, the ones with empty arms; the moms of 1, the moms of many; the old, the young; the single, the married, the step, the blended; the moms waiting to adopt, the moms fostering, the moms who birthed. You all are so special and important!  There's no one else like a Mom, that's for sure!! :)

This poem was read by our pastor this morning at church. It brings tears to my eyes! To think that our 5 kids will be grown and gone in the blink of an eye! It makes me realize how fast time goes by and that I need to be more intentional with my love on them, to teach them, to laugh and have fun with them, to hug, to kiss, to snuggle with them, to talk with them and answer every "what's that mama?" with patience and a smile, to make every day an adventure with them and to show them God's unending love. Only with God's help can He make me the mom I (and He) desire to be!

It's called "I Sit and Rock Alone"

Just yesterday it seems my children
Played upon the floor
And I wiped countless fingerprints
from the window pane and door

I kissed away a thousand tears
and darned sock after sock
And tried to keep pace with the hands
That raced around the clock.

And often when at the end of day
Too tired to sleep, in bed I lay.
I'd think how nice when, children grown,
My time again should be my own.

So, now I sit and rock alone,
My hands at rest, the work all done;
No little tots upon the floor,
No fingerprints upon the door.

No socks to mend, bruises to kiss-
Ah me! How could I know I'd miss
The very things I grudged to do?
Dear, God, if only there might be
Someone again who needed me!

2nd Grade Patriotic Performance

Jared's 2nd grade class, along with the other four classes, put on a sweet patriotic performance.  It's a long video (20 minutes) but it's cute.  I especially like the song at minute 13.  Oh, and Jared is in the red on the top left.  Enjoy! :)
