Desert Botanical Gardens

We got a steal-of-a-deal on a Desert Botanical Gardens membership, thanks to Groupon! We've made a few purchases from Groupon. They have some awesome deals! You have to try it!

Anyways ;) , so I decided to put our DBG membership to use and take the girlies to it a few weeks ago. Grammy joined us too. It was fun! They have some nice, easy paths for the girlies to walk. We got to see hummingbirds, butterflies and lots of flowers and Arizona-native plants. In addition, we happen to be there when the Gardens had their "Chocolate and Chiles" event. Sweet! Literally ;) Us 6 girls induldged in several samples of yummy chocolatey goodness. Mmmm! :) Here are some pics of our morning outing.

The girls LOVED it! It was only Monarchs but come spring there are other species fluttering around too.The girls looking at all of the butterfliesI believe these are females. Males have spots on their tales and females do not. The butterfly expert in the exhibit told us that. Very interesting!Suzan was pretty proud that the shirt she wore had a butterfly on it - Ha! :DThe girlies after a snack of chocolate and homemade Kettle Corn Mama brought (again ;) )...SuzanBrielleAnnaBethany

A robot! Yup, he said he wanted to be a robot. So, he and I made his costume ourselves :) Some boxes, tape, dryer duct, lots of silver spray paint, some typing and printing from our computer, a bit of glow-in-the-dark glue and other craft supplies and we got this!Pretty cool, huh? Yup, he got TONS of parents and kids complimenting on his awesome costume. No one else had one like it :) He was very proud of it. Here's the back of it too. He wanted a "danger! high voltage" door on the back - Ha! He had the creative ideas and Mom had the computer/Photo Shop expertise to make it happen ;)And the girlies' Halloween costumes? Well...

Four pretty princesses! Thanks to G&G Carlson for the dress-up dresses and wands and Target for the crowns and earrings (I had the pink tights already) they were the cutest princesses in our neighborhood EVER!All 5 kids enjoyed the trick-or-treating (1.5 hrs of it! Wow!). Their buckets were plumb full of goodies. So heavy, in fact, that Paul and I tried to carry the girlies' buckets for them and they said "no! my bucket!" Okay then! Ha! The girlies also figured out what we were doing with trick-or-treating that, at one point, Bethany said "that one!" and pointed to a house. Ha! Yup, they enjoyed the night :)

Now, it's November, much cooler and nicer to get out and about and getting VERY close to Turkey Day! Wow! We're definitely going to enjoy our fall here, with more pics to post :)

Boo @ the Zoo

Here's another post on our fall activities! Enjoy! :)

This year we utilized our zoo membership and checked out the Boo @ the Zoo event. It was PACKED! Wall to wall parents and kids ;) The kids enjoyed playing a few games, walking through the hay maze and saying "boo" to the farm animals. Here are some pics of our outing!

First, I popped up some homemade Kettle Corn as a snack for our zoo trip. Super easy, yummy and much cheaper than the $7 a small bag you can get at the zoo ;) The kids LOVED it! Here is the recipe. Make it folks!!Our 5 kids at Boo @ the Zoo...Suzan, Bethany, Jared, Brielle and Anna. And yes, I made the girlies' fall shirts. Too fun and too cute :)Jared on one of the tractorsThe kids going through the hay mazeJared milking a cow. Okay, yes that's not a real cow and yes, not real milk either (H2O, in fact ;) ).The girlies helping Jared with the cow ;)Our zoo has a Fisher Price Little Peoples farm playground for kids to play at. So, we let the kids play there for a while. Bethany sitting on the cow.Anna's turn on the cowThen Suzan'sAnd then Brielle's. Jared was off playing in the tractor ;)After the Boo we ate our Kettle Corn and then wandered around the zoo checking out the animals. Here, the girlies say "hi!" to the Giraffes :)Next up? The Great Pumpkin Festival

Okay, here's the start of MANY posts of our fall/October and what we've been up to. Yes, Halloween pics are coming. Don't worry! You all have to be patient with me, as I have 278 pictures to go through of our fall! ;)

First, the girls and I (Jared was back in school) went out to The Great Pumpkin Festival with Grammy one Friday. Fun, fun! A definite "to do" for next year! They had games, a place to take cute pumpkin photos for families, a hay ride to the pumpkin patch, each child got a free pumpkin to take (very cool!) and a petting zoo (which 3/4 of the girlies enjoyed). Here are the pics. Enjoy!

My 4 cutie patootie girly pumpkins :D Anna, Suzan, Brielle and Bethany. Yes, Brielle found another use for a pumpkin, e.g. foot stool. Ha! ;)Another one of them, just showing off the cool truck they were in front of :)Mama and Grammy with the girlies. 6 girlies :)Game time with Grammy. This one was "dig for bugs." The girlies were timid at first.
I will say that Suzan will NOT give up the 2 bees she got from this game. She still has them and won't let go of them. She is stuck to her bees like honey. Ha! ;) Although, she calls them "buggies" :)Bowling with pumpkinsHayride time! I think they girlies enjoyed the ride :)The hay mazeThe girlies sitting on top of the hay maze with Mr. Scarecrow ;) Brielle, Anna, Suzan and BethanyComing through the hay mazeAnna and Suzan with the pumpkins they picked outBrielle with her pumpkinAnd Bethany with her pumpkin

She enjoyed This Little Piggy too :)Smiley AnnaBrielle still petting that Little Piggy. Yes, she really liked being friendly with the animals.Cute Little Piggy!Next to post? Our trip to Boo at the Zoo. Then...Halloween, with pumpkin carving by Jared and costumes.

Oh, also in October our friends, the Martins, invited us over for a fun Fall Playdate. Jared was still on fall break from school then so he was able to go to the playdate with us girls. Julia M had some fun crafts at her home. The kids made a little forest :)Super cute and super easy to make! You just need brown paper bags and those foam leaf-shaped stickers. Sweet!Come back for more Fall posts!
