I'm dreaming of a white...Thanksgiving

Snow? In Arizona? You've got to be joking?! Well, not really. We got some white stuff here late Thanksgiving Day but it wasn't snow. It was similar, though.Yes, we got some hail. And not a little bit of hail. It was a good downpour of hail. It was about grape-sized hail (or about 3/4" in dia.). That's some good sized hail. Now, I know some of you are thinking "'cmon, i've seen much more hail, and bigger sized hail, than that! that's nothing!" You have to remember, this is Arizona. The desert. Where we have 300 days of sun a year. So any change in our usual "dry and sunny" is like "wow!" ;)

Here are some other pics of our "white Thanksgiving."
Our neighbors were outside too (checking their cars for any hail damage) so their teenage daughter was playing with Jared and collecting as much hail as possible into our Tupperware bowl.Snow cone, anyone?Jared enjoyed seeing the hail...and collecting itNow for our Thanksgiving. It was just us (the 7 of us) for Thanksgiving. In the past, we usually traveled to California and spent Thanksgiving there with my extended family. This year (and last year, due to me being very pregnant then) we didn't get to go. It's with four 8.5 month olds and a 4.5 year old...during cold/flu/RSV season. Needless to say we didn't do it ;) We missed everyone and hope we can make the trip next year!!

As it turns out, we decided to make Thanksgiving dinner for us (we were going to share it with friends but our friends got sick on us). That was not fun. Chasing babies and a preschooler all day, just the two of us, AND make Thanksgiving dinner? We were crazy (and tired)!! I will say that all of the food was yummy but I don't think we're going to do that again anytime soon ;)

Here are some fun pictures of our day.

The girls, rolling and playing around (Bethany, Suzan, Anna and Brielle). Thanks to Misty U (she has all girl quads too!) for the four cute matching outfits! They were perfect for the girls' first Thanksgiving!!Bethany, Brielle, Anna and SuzanThe girls with big brother, JaredSuzan, calling everyone to say "happy thanksgiving!"Anna - "mama, are we going to have pumpkin pie??"Bethany - "i'm fishing for some fish for thanksgiving din din"
Brielle - "hey, i'm just hanging out till the dinner bell rings"Jared enjoying a holiday snackSome Thanksgiving decorations...I made this cornucopia a long time agoAnd I thought Jared would enjoy seeing some gourds, all in different shapes, sizes, textures and colors. They were cheap too - 10 for $1 at Fresh & EasyJared helping with the turkeyOkay, now some "who's who." Which one is Bethany and which one is Anna? Two peas in a pod :)On the right, looking cuteAh, this one might have given it away ;)Or this one"Awe mama, aren't we cute?" I'll reveal who is who in a later postBrielle eating some turkey (we started feeding them meats...they really don't like it :P) - "mama, are you sure this is turkey? hm..."Bethany - "must you take my picture while i am eating???"Suzan - "okay, how is it you are feeding me more turkey than my sisters? that's a lot mama!"Anna - "i am SO not liking this meat thing!!"Then Jared wanted to spend some time playing outside, to work up a Thanksgiving appetite. Jared biking...Then some time scootering...Then on his "motorcycle." Yes, he is way too big for his baby trike but he loves to ride it and say it's his motorcycle. Where he came up with motorcycle, I don't know ;)His whole purpose on riding all of his various modes of transportation was to splash in the puddlesOh, and having some fun too ;)Sweet boy!Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving!

Authors Luncheon

Today, Jared's pre-k class had what is called an "Authors Luncheon." It was to celebrate food, family and Thanksgiving. We (the parents) and our child were choose a book related to food and make a dish that goes along with the book to share with everyone. For example, the book "Green Eggs and Ham" where we could bring eggs (green or not) and/or ham to share and eat.

So Jared and I (mostly I) thought about what books he has that mention a food or dish. We went with "The Pumpkin Gospel." It's a very cute book, perfect for Halloween or the fall. Then, we tried to think of what to make. Hm... Well, there's pumpkin pie? Pumpkin bread? Pumpkin muffins? Ah ha, pumpkin muffins. Sounds yummy :P I perused through All Recipes and found a really good recipe for the muffins. It says to use a sugar pumpkin (huh? can't find one of those here) but several of the reviewers said they used 2 cups of canned pureed pumpkin (*note, NOT pumpkin pie filling) so that's what I did. I then decided to put some cream cheese frosting on the tops of the muffins. I have to say, they turned out quite yummy!

What was very fun was seeing all of the other kids' books and the fun and interesting food/dishes they brought to share.

So, the next time you are getting together for a family meal or a mothers' group get together/play date or just want to try something fun for your own family meals for a week or so, try having an Authors Luncheon. It's a very cute and creative idea! Oh, and try the All Recipes Pumpkin Muffins too ;)

Wild and crazy guy...and gals ;)

As I've mentioned before, it seems like our girls are doing so much lately. They are all over the place, crawling, rolling, sitting up. They are talking (okay, maybe screaming, screeching or squealing ;) ) a lot. Jared's been doing lots too...always (and I mean ALWAYS) asking to go outside to play with the neighborhood kids. He actually hears the kids from inside our home and exclaims "mama! do you hear that? there are kids outside! let's eat (or finish whatever we're doing) really fast so we can go outside." Ha! I have to say, too, that the neighborhood kids are very sweet with Jared. They sometimes come to our door to see if Jared can come out to play. Awe!

So, here are some pics from last evening of our crazy kids :) Hm...don't know where the pics of Brielle are. Oh, I guess you can see her foot ;)

Suzan reaching through the crib slats and grabbing at Brielle's foot. Just imagine what will happen when they get older (and can stand up, climb, etc.) ;)Anna can now reach into the fishbowl...And grab out a toy. Bethany can do this too. Those baby brains are working!Suzan, the crawlinator ;) She goes everywhere...And around everything. Nothing can stop her!! (fyi, Jared got Suzan some exercise by hiding all over our family room and seeing her crawl after him. Good thinking Jared! Get her tuckered out ;) ) Oh, and don't look too long at the psychedelic pants ;)The sweet little boy!And Bethany, looking cute in her green jeans
