Playroom Suggestions

We cleared out our dining room so we can turn the room into a dedicated playroom. For the first few years, we hope the playroom will provide a safe place for the girls to play. For ages 3 to 5, we hope to use the room for basic preschool activities.

We would appreciate suggestions on a few items:

- How can we gate off the 10' and 11' openings to keep our girls in the playroom? These gates from Summer Infant and Kidco look promising, but I question their ability to hold back four little girls who want to chase their mommy into the kitchen.

-The room measures roughly 12' by 13'. What would you put in the room for each stage of development for the next several years? A play kitchen set is definitely in our future, but at what age? When would the girls enjoy playing at an activity table?

-Any suggestions for protecting the carpet from accidents, messes, and spills?

no real suggestions for you (i envy that great space you have for the girls to play in!) but i just wanted to let you know i have some friends with GGGG quads too, born on the same day, at the same hospital, as my BBB triplets, also at 32 weeks. they don't update their website much, but it's www.murphyquads.com.

your girls are beautiful!

I would have something specially built for the space that would match your house and still be safe for the girls. Play stations, there are soo many things to choose from....just wait some more to see what their personalities will bring...then you'll know. I would for sure scotch guard the carpet and invest in a small carpet machine to clean up spills before they set in. I hope this helps. By the way, I'm Nicole's friend from North Dakota.

Hi, My suggestion would be to wait till they are at least 3 for a activity table. It will just become a climbing toy before then. As for the gates... get something that is strong. They will all hang from in at one point in efforts to climb over. You want something that will hold four toddlers at once. LOL Good luck, Fellow TC mom

With you have four girls, I would definately get a play kitchen, table and chairs, dolls cribs etc. Basically turn the room into their own miniture house. Depends on your budget of course but these look lovely:

Hello. I came upon your blog througha friend of mine and I noticed you needed suggestions for gating off babies. I have a 1 year old and I have a HUGE dog, so I have a gate that is retractable. i got it from Retract a Gate here is the link:

http://www.retract-a-gate.com/

It works great, you can lock it and you can install the brackets on any door way and move the actual gate part to whatever part of the house you are in. It is awesome and there is no way to knock it down and it retracts easily and it is out of the way :)

Hope you are able to find something that works for your family.
