It was great in 2008! And it will be divine in 2009!!

2008 was a year of MUCH change, as you can imagine! Looking back at 2008 I am amazed at what God has carried us through. He did SO much for us in 2008...with my high-order multiple pregnancy, with our family expanding to a family of 7 (i still write that number, 7, in disbelief), with us helping Jared transition to have four siblings at once and with raising a son and quadruplets. God is, and has been, good to us!

It was great in 2008. 2009 will bring lots more for us...the girls turning one (wow! that's just crazy!!) and Jared turning five and heading off to kindergarten (what?! that can't be!!). I'm sure that there will be some surprises for us in 2009 but I know God will be there to guide and help us along the way. It will be divine in 2009 ;)

1st Christmas with quads

Well, we celebrated (and survived ;) ) our first Christmas with quads. Thanks to my mom (thank you again, Mom!!) we had some help with the girls and with preparing Christmas dinner. It was very nice to have family, my mom, with us for Christmas!

The girls enjoyed opening presents (aka, tasting wrapping paper :P ) and playing with their new toys. Big brother, Jared, also enjoyed opening presents and helping his sisters play with their new toys. We spent the day relaxing, doing our usual "baby" routine and celebrating Jesus' birth with Christmas dinner and birthday cake. I think Jared really enjoyed the cake :) !! Here are some pictures of our Christmas (more pics available at our family's website).

Thanks to Misty U (thank you again Misty!!) our girls had some very cute Christmas PJs. Jared's came from The Children's Place.

Okay now, who is who? Can't tell? Mom is happy that she is able to tell the difference between the two now. Yay! It's Anna (L) and Bethany (R) Christmas morn.Anna, Bethany and JaredThe girls, all ready to open presents. Suzan, Anna, Bethany and BrielleThe girls digging into presents from Grammy

Retail Cost of Average, Healthy Quads: $1.1M

So, have you ever wondered "hm, how much are the medical bills to care for and deliver quads for the first year?" Well, if so BRACE YOURSELF! Paul compiled our medicals bills over the last year and here are our totals to care for me when pregnant with the girls, to deliver them via c-section, to care for the girls while in the NICU and to get them all of their miscellaneous doctor's visits/shots/etc. I will say that we were very fortunate and blessed to be healthy through the process, so these prices are lower than expected.

GRAND TOTALS!$1,117,772$563,736

The joy of caring for four precious little girls: PRICELESS :) !!!!

You Ain't Just Whistling Dixie

Or should I say, Bethany? This might sound strange and unbelievable but one of our almost 10-month-olds can whistle. And that would be Bethany. First I couldn't believe it! Then she kept doing it and can now whistle "on request." So with that, I bring you Bethany whistling (*note, turn up your volume as she is a quiet whistler).

Oh, and we had a very nice Christmas, with just the 7 of us and my mom. I'll have a Christmas post up soon...I just have A LOT of photos to go through ;)

Happy Birthday Jesus! Merry Christmas!!

I thought it would be fun to bake a birthday cake for Jesus this year. So that's what Jared and I did today, bake a cake. He always loves to help bake/cook!

He especially loves to help if the mixer will be used ;)Mmmm, almost done!Yum! Can't forget the frosting! We wish everyone a very Merry and Blessed Christmas!!

Luke 2:9-14 - An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."

Mmmmm! Hot Chocolate!

I thought it would be fun to share a cup of hot chocolate with our little boy this evening. It was nice and yummy, perfect for a cold, drizzly winter evening. Jared has never had hot chocolate before (yeah, I know some of you are in shock with that :P ). I don't know what he enjoyed most, the hot chocolate or the marshmallows ;) BTW, he and I did NOT eat the entire bag of marshmallows. We just had them open so that he could take a few of them out, one by one, in order to dip them into his hot chocolate. It was too cute!

"hey mama! try this!""mmmmm! this is GOOD!"As with the Christmas lights and cookie making, I imagined what it will be like with four little girls joining Jared and I for hot chocolate in a few years. I can hear them now..."mama! MORE mama! MORE!" ;)

Finally...our Christmas card!

Here is the photo we went with for our Christmas card this year.
And here is our Christmas card.I REALLY like how they turned out, both the family picture and the Christmas card. Everyone comments on how we got all of the kids, especially the girls, to look at the camera. I don't know how it happened either ;) And we'll see if it will ever happen again!

Cookie time!

We've baked Christmas cookies with Jared for the last few years. I remember last year (as I will always remember the year I was pregnant with the girls!) I couldn't make them with him (I was TOO big and uncomfortable!) so my mom came over and baked with the guy. This year it was back to him and me baking some cookies. Yay!

Jared cutting out the cookies. Don't mind the green cookie dough. It's supposed to be that way ;) I had to make some green cookies for his class and had some dough left over.Cookies all baked and now frosting and decorating the cookies with Mama. Paul likes to joke about my huge assortment of sprinkles and jimmies ;) FYI...I joked with Paul saying "okay, can you imagine me coordinating 5 kids for Christmas cookie time in a few years? Uff! That will be quite the undertaking ;)" Seriously, it will be fun!Jared eating the "fruits" of his labor ;)"Mmmmm! Mmm!"The cookies we baked, minus a few we had to "taste test" ;)Hope all of your baking and holiday traditions are as fun and festive!

Our kids' ornaments

We started it with Jared, getting him his "1st Christmas" ornament. So with the girls we had to get them their own "1st Christmas" ornaments. They will be able to enjoy looking back at these in a few years and especially when they get to be adults. (oh my, they're gonna be adults?? ack! hope they don't grow up so fast on us!! ;) )

Paul's sister, Mary, gave us this ornament when I was pregnant with Jared in 2003. I had grandiose ideas of making four of these, with little pink bows, for each of the girls last Christmas, when I was pregnant with them, tagged "Baby A, B, C and D." Alas, I did not. Something about my BIG belly getting in the way of things ;)Jared Paul's 1st Christmas ornament. He looked such like a big kid then! (but only 9mo, mind you). The other side of his ornament has another picture of him and is personalized with his name.Suzan Faith's ornamentAnna Joy's ornamentBethany Hope's ornamentAnd Brielle Grace's ornamentWe do have some ornaments of Paul and I together, one of us when we were dating and another of us on our wedding day. I am trying to get this year's most recent picture put into a frame ornament. I think photo framed ornaments are the best!
