Jared goes to school!

Jared went to school today!! It's a preschool class put on by the Chandler Parks & Rec. The class is called "Apples to Zebras." Right now he is in a class that meets 3 days a week, 2 hours each day, and for 3 weeks. Today was the first day. Jared did great! No crying or clinging to Mom. In fact, he jumped right in to the class, sitting down and playing. I had to ask him for hugs and kisses when leaving - ha! :) Come fall, we'll enroll him for the same preschool for 2 days a week, 2 hours each day for 3 months (or for a semester's worth). There are about 17 kids in a class and 2 teachers. They also have an "advanced" class for 4-year-olds. We might check in to that for next year.

He loved it today! He said he met some new friends to play with. I asked him what his friends' names were and he said "kids!" Ha! He reviewed and read his ABCs, he had a snack, made a craft and just had fun. It looks like a great preschool class. Here is a description of the class:

This class offers activities that children enjoy most: art, crafts, games, songs, story telling and much more. This program gives children the opportunity to grow and develop, both socially and educationally, in a structured classroom enviroment. Apples to zebras will prepare them for the next phase of their educational progression.

The one thing Jared was looking foward to today was driving a school bus to school. Sadly, no school bus ride for him :( The school is right across the street from us (about 2 minutes away) and they don't provide buses anyways. Hey, maybe we could've had Grandpa Carlson drive Jared to school today ;)

Awe, our baby is going to school already :) !! More pictures of Jared and his preschool at our website (under "Jared" and "Three-Years-Old").

"I'm Playing in the Rain, Just Playing in the Rain!"

Yesterday afternoon, at around 4:00PM, we got a monsoon downpour. It was very cool. So, I thought Jared would have fun putting on his raincoat and shoes and go outside to play in the rain. And boy did he have fun! He was splashing. He was mowing (yes, even in the rain ;) ). He was running around. And with our yards all dug up and dirt everywhere, Jared had fun hanging out in the big mud puddles :) He had lots of fun and I'm sure is anticipating the next downpour!

More pictures of Jared playing in the rain are at our website, under "Jared" and "Three Years Old."

Spider Pig!

I about died laughing when I saw a critic's review of The Simpsons Movie this morning. The trailer clips were so funny. I especially like the clip of the Spider Pig. Oh my! That is hilarious! We've got to see this movie!

Big Load

Well, today we got a surprise at our doorstep. A BIG load of concrete pavers! Jared and I counted and there are 9 pallets of pavers. Wow! Now, that's a lot of pavers ;)

The landscapers are scheduled to come out Monday morning and start the re-landscaping work! It makes total sense why we have this load here. Now, I wonder what other "big loads" we should expect?? Hm...

North Dakota, the new Arizona??

Okay, I have to post about this. I like to stay up and watch the weather on the local news station (because you know, the weather changes so often here and it might not be sunny in Arizona the next day - or at least that is what Paul always ribs me about in watching the weather :P ). I was stunned to find out that it was hotter in Bismarck, North Dakota today than it was here! Bismarck's high temp = 101. Phoenix's high temp = 95. Wow! And the hottest spot in the U.S. today? Somewhere in Montana, with a high of 110. Yikes! Hey, I should take the good temps when we get them :)

We are only cooler now because it's monsoon season for us. Yay! Although, it's quite humid out. Yes, 45% humidity is humid to us Zonies :)

Delicious

Okay, I thought I'd post another cute thing Jared's been doing.

Another word that Jared has become accustomed to saying is "delicious." The first time we heard this was when we were over at our friends, John and Julia Martin, for a 4th of July dinner. After dinner, Julia came out with some homemade brownies for dessert. We all sat down and were eating some. It was then that I heard Jared say to Paul "dada, these brownies are delicious" (and he said it like "dewishous" Ha!) Paul then said to Jared, "well, why don't you tell Miss Julia that." So, Jared got up, walked over to Julia and said "Miss Julia, these brownies are delicious! Thank you for making them!" Ha! Julia was surprised by Jared's compliment, laughed and said "you're welcome Jared." Now, we've heard him comment on how "dewishous" other foods are ;)

Beautiful

Lately, Jared's been telling us that certain things are "beautiful." Where he picked up saying this, I don't know :) So just tonight, I asked him to turn on the lights in the kitchen area. When he turned on the lights, he said to me "wow, the kitchen looks so beautiful." I looked at him and laughed. What a silly, and sweet, boy. I then told him "thank you, sweetheart. i like that the kitchen is beautiful."

Yum!

Well, tonight after dinner Jared and I baked a cake, a birthday cake for Paul. Jared loves to be my helper, or as I like to call him my sous chef ;) , in the kitchen. Last time we baked together, we made a peach and blueberry cobbler. That was yummy! Tonight he did a great job, lightly beating the eggs, pouring flours and buttermilk into bowls, squeezing out lemon juice, turning the mixer on and off, mixing the batter with the spatula. But I think the best part of all for him is to LICK THE SPOON. Ha! Yes, while we were mixing the batter in my stand mixer, he kept asking me "can I have a lick now?" I kept telling him "not yet, but soon." Later he'd ask again "can I have a lick now?" and I'd reply with "not yet, Jared, but soon." He was very patient with me (even singing one of his kids Christian songs about patience, too cute!). When it was finally time to lick the spoon, he got so excited. Paul asked him "which part of baking with Mom do you like best?" His answer, "licking the spoon!" Cute!

As far as the cake, Paul and I watched an episode of "America's Test Kitchen" that was all about citrus desserts. On the episode, they made a lemon bundt cake. So, when I asked Paul "what kind of birthday cake would you like to have this year?" he told me "you know, I think I'd like that lemon bundt cake that was on ATK." So that is what is currently cooling on our counter right now. It smells very yummy!! Can't wait to have a piece of it with a side of vanilla ice cream. Yum!

We're going to celebrate Paul's birthday a little early this year. That means we get to bite into this tastey treat tomorrow or sometime this weekend. I know Paul can't wait :)

Our Little Fish

We signed up Jared for some swim lessons this summer. He and I took a mommy and me class last summer and he learned a lot from it. So, we decided to continue with the lessons this summer. He's been having fun at them!!
Check out more pictures of our lil' fish at our website, under "Jared," "Three Years Old" and "Jared's Swim Lessons."

Happy 4th of July!

Hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th! We're glad we got to see some "early" 4th fireworks in North Dakota back in June. Thanks again Michael & Samara!

Everyone enjoy the fireworks!

"What I like" by Jared P.

I thought I'd list what Jared likes lately...
  • Bob the Builder (we try to Tivo it from PBS)
  • The Berenstain Bears (also from PBS)
  • Swimming, or as he likes to say "take a dip in the pool," either in our pool or Hamilton Aquatic Center
  • Playing on his computer. He will go to the Sesame Street website and play the educational games there. We also have a set of Jump Start Preschool CDs that he likes playing with too.
  • Playing in his room with his "Cars" cars. He must have almost every car character from the movie, e.g. Lightin' McQueen, Doc, Mater, Sally, Guido, Ramone, etc. It's cute to see him take them out, build garages and buildings for them and play pretend. We also have a Matchbox semi-truck that he uses to be Mack from the movie and we have a couple of tractors that he will use for "tractor tippin' ". And in case you don't know what in the world we are talking about, just go see the movie ;)
  • Being a (and I quote from Jared) "Big Boy, Three Years Old!"
  • Reading stories, either by himself or with Mom and Dad
  • Eating at Chick-fil-A. And if the Cow is there, he likes going up to it and giving it a hug.
  • Talking about "getting married again" (or our trip to ND)
  • Singing along to his kids music. He'll even sing a capella with Mom and Dad
  • Praying. Mom and Dad love that!!
  • Talking to anyone and everyone on the phone
  • Putting on his scrubbies and working with Mom and Dad outside in the yards

And what do Mom and Dad like? Giving our big boy big hugs and kisses because he is so sweet and precious!!
