Vroom Vroom!

Jared had a fun 3rd birthday party, racing around with friends and family. We are so blessed to have Jared and are thankful for the friends and family that we can celebrate with! Pictures of the "big race" are posted at our website. Check them out!

Jared's Three Today!

Yes, today is Jared's birthday! He is excited for his birthday (and we are too). He loves talking about his birthday and telling us that he's three. I love seeing him hold up his three little fingers and say "I'm three!" He is such a sweet and special boy. We are so pleased to be blessed by him!

We have a party planned for him on Sunday afternoon / evening, with friends and family. We're celebrating with something(s) he is very fond of, CARS. He loves the Disney "Cars" movie (actually, he calls it "race cars") so we thought it was fitting that his birthday be all cars. Be on the lookout for party pictures at our website sometime after the "big race!" ;)

Buckle your seatbelts

This morning, our friend (Patrick Murphy, pilot for Southwest Airlines) called and invited us to meet him and his family out at Williams Gateway Airport in Mesa. He said the airport was having an "open house" and that we would have fun looking at all of the air crafts. So, we joined the Murphys out there.

It was fun! Jared had a blast looking at all of the airplanes and helicopters (Jay Jay and Herky, if you know the PBS show "Jay Jay the Jet Plane" ;) ) We got to see (Apache Helicopter), walk around in (Boeing 707) or sit in some of the planes (Vision Airlines, they actually fly from Mesa to Las Vegas). There were also fire trucks there from the local fire departments. After seeing the Boeing, Jared wanted to see and sit in EVERY plane there. HA!

Get this, all of you up north, the University of North Dakota had a plane and recruitment station set up! I asked Paul "what? how? WHY??" He said that UND has one of the best aviation schools in the country. Our friend, Patrick, confirmed this. That is pretty cool!

Paul Joke

A joke from my husband...

Q - How do you stop bacon from curling in the frying pan?
A - Take away their brooms!

Heh heh heh :l

And in case you don't know about curling, it's a sport from up north. I say "up north" because you need ice to play it. I think Paul played it in PE in school.

Got My Mind Set On You

Okay, in case you didn't know, (like I didn't) "Got My Mind Set On You" was composed and sung by George Harrison of The Beatles. I should know this, though, as I took a music class all on The Beatles in college. But I think George did this song after The Beatles.

In any case, do you ever have songs stuck in your head? One that you keep singing over and over and over again in your mind? This happens to me a lot :P Sometimes, I wake up in the morning with a Christian worship song in my head. On Saturday, Jared and I watched the VeggieTale video Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Samson's Hairbrush and I had a song from it stuck in my head the whole afternoon. The song was "Pizza Angel," one of Larry the Cucumber's Silly Songs (BTW, Jared loves VeggieTales and the Silly Songs :) ). Today, I have another song stuck in my mind. It's a song from the Kindermusik class Jared is taking. It's the welcome song we always sing in the beginning of class, "It's our time to sing together..."

What happens to me a lot is I will just sing the first few words of a song in my head and then it's stuck. And it's stuck there for quite a while ;) What I like to do is play with Paul and tell him "Guess what song's stuck in my head? Let me sing it to you!" He usually says "Noooooo!" because he knows it will get stuck in his head too. HA!

Big Head Genes

Paul and I measured Jared's head circumference yesterday and he has a big noggin. 53cm! That is in the 99th percentile! The average (50th percentile) circumference for a 3-year-old boy's head is 49.5cm. This isn't a surprise to us, though. We've known that Jared has a big head. It happens to run in the Carlson (Paul's) genes.

I think Jared's head is just so big because of the big brains and intelligence he has to carry around ;)
