Roar!!!!!

Jared and I went to the Phoenix Zoo this morning, with our friends Karen and Grace Murphy. We had a good time. We went on a Safari Tour around the zoo. Then, we strolled around and saw the animals up close and personal :) We think we even heard a lion roar for us! Check out our pictures.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

It is the last weekday before Christmas! Hope you are able to wind down from the week and enjoy this weekend. We won't be having a white Christmas here in AZ :) In fact, we're supposed to be in the high-70s or even 80 degrees by Christmas!

We look forward celebrating Christ's birth! We wish you a safe and joyous Christmas this year. May you experience God's blessings!

Gingerbread Boy

We spent this morning at my mom's. She got one of those gingerbread house kits and had us and Jared's cousin, Tyler, over to put it together. The two cousins had fun with it...mostly eating the candies :) Some pictures of our morning are posted under "Holidays" and "Christmas 2005."

Oooooo! Lights!

The three of us went to look at lights last evening. We met our friends, Karen and Patrick, there with their little girl, Grace. We go look at lights every year at a cul-de-sac in Mesa, AZ. All houses on the street are totally lit up. There is also a walking nativity / Christmas story in the backyard of one of the houses. That is so cool! Both Jared and Grace loved looking at the lights. Afterwards, we let the kids play on a playground that was across the street.

What is it now, a week till Christmas?! I don't know where the time has gone! This is Jared's second Christmas season. Paul and I notice that Jared is more aware of Christmas this year :) Jared loves the lights (as you can tell), pulls on the ornaments on our tree, dances to the Christmas music and enjoys munching on some homemade sugar cookies :) We'll be staying in town for Christmas again. We will have some friends and my mom over on Christmas Day for dinner. I've posted some pictures of how we are enjoying this season. Feel free to check them out...

Santa's Little Helper

Okay, maybe Jared is Mom's little helper :) He loves helping me around the house. Lately, he gets our broom out of the pantry and will go around the house "sweeping." I tell him "Are you helping Mom clean? Thank you, Jared!" He really loves that broom :)

Other than being our helper, Jared is soaking in the Christmas season. He LOVES (and that is an understatement) the Christmas lights on the outside of houses. He will ask us to please go drive around and look at lights. He also enjoys looking at all of the ornaments on our tree. There are a couple that are "babyproof" that he can take off and look at, e.g. a stuffed monkey and reindeer. His Grandma Carlson (Martha!) gave us some Christmas books that had carols inside. So, he loves it when he can sit in my lap and hear me sing the carols. He likes flipping through and looking at the pictures too.

Jared is babbling like crazy. He is great about signing "please," "more" and "milk." Lately, he is saying, not signing, "thank you." It is too cute when he says it..."tank chews" :) He enjoys playing with kids and LOVES (again, an understatement :) ) to dance. He'll hold on to our hands and dance, dance in his seat and will even dance while we are holding him in our arms. He is such a sweet and cute little boy!!

Turkey Trip

We are back from our trip to California for Thanksgiving. We had a good time. We drove to CA with the three of us, Maria's mom and Maria's nephew, Tyler. Jared did great in the car ride. While in CA, we did some shopping, went to the beach (no, we didn't get into the water :) ), spent time with family and let Jared expend some energy on a playground in the area. It was a good trip! Check out our pictures.

Goodnight Teddy Bear

Jared has been doing the cutest thing lately that I thought I would share with you :) Like most parents, we have a bedtime routine with Jared. We get him ready for bed, with PJs and some calming music. We sit down in the rocker and read a story with him, while he sips away on some water. Then, we lay him down in his crib and give him one last sip of water. Well, Jared thought he would share his water with the fuzzy teddy bear that sleeps with him. He holds the sippy cup to the bear's mouth, makes a drink noise, like "smack smack," and then looks at us with a big grin. He must think his little bear needs a sip before bed too :) He's been doing this for the last few weeks. It is the cutest thing ever!

Fun at Grammy's!

Jared and I spent the morning at Grandma Guzman's today. My niece, Nicole, and her daughter, Morgan, were in town from California. We got to visit and play with them. It was great seeing them, especially since we had not met Morgan in person yet. Jared and Morgan had fun playing at Grammy's. There's lots to see and do in Grammy's backyard :) Jared had fun entertaining folks too :) Check out the pictures...

Happy Fall!

Ah, the fall season! Cooler weather! Leaves changing color! Well, we don't get leaves changing color here in Arizona :) It is beautiful here, though! I can see why lots of folks are moving to Arizona :) The evenings are so cool. We take walks or strolls with Jared whenever we can.

Paul, Jared and I went to Schnepf Farms with our friends, Karen, Patrick and Grace Murphy, in October. Jared loves being outdoors. He enjoyed seeing the pig races, petting the goats in the petting zoo, being on the carousel with Mom and riding on the train.

Jared dressed up as a fighter pilot for Halloween.
He looked too cute! We trick-or-treated around our neighborhood a bit and then visited friends of ours. Jared also enjoyed watching Paul and I carve a pumpkin the night before.

Feel free to check out more pictures (all of Jared :) ) on our website, under "Jared" and "Second Year."

Too Sweet!

It has been fun watching Jared play with our friends' little girl, Grace. They are both getting into playing with one another. Just today, Jared was sharing his snacks with her, helping her pick up her dolly and letting her play with his toys. They are both too sweet! I posted some pictures of them playing together (under "Jared," and "Second Year").

New Set of Wheels

Our family got a new set of wheels today! We were able, with God's help, to donate our Pathfinder to a needy family and then get a new minivan. We were running with one car for a while. That was a change. Then, Paul worked out a deal on a new Odyssey for us. It is pretty slick! We already love it. The best thing is that there is A/C for Jared in the rear of the vehicle. That is great for our hot Arizona summers. The minivan has a great amount of interior space too, either for hauling stuff in the back or seating more kiddlings. Jared gave it a "thumbs up" :)

1/2 Birthday in North Dakota

Well, our little boy is turning 1.5 years old tomorrow. Yikes, how time flies!! He is such a joy! We both love how fun and boisterous he is. He talks a lot and is so inquisitive. He listens for airplanes flying over and stops to watch them go overhead. He understands what we say, which I think is amazing. He is too sweet with everyone, especially our cat, Bear :) Check out Jared's link for the latest photos of him.

We will be in North Dakota for Jared's 1/2 birthday tomorrow. We will kinda get to celebrate it Saturday evening, as we have a dinner and fireworks evening planned. It will be fun seeing Paul's family again! I hear that Grampy and Grammy are set to spoil Jared too :) ...a sandbox, fun swings and tons of toys. The last time Paul's parents saw Jared, he was a little over a year old and the last time Paul's brother and sister saw him, he was 5 months old. Boy, will they be surprised by the boy :)

Pilot in Training

Jared loves watching and listening to the airplanes that fly around out here. He can hear an airplane flying over while we are inside...and he will then look out the windows and point to it :) Then, when we are outside, triking or walking around, we have to stop and look up at the planes. We have a little city municipal airport that I think Jared would love to go to and see all the planes take off and land. Guess he is our little pilot in training :)

Starting to Cool Off

Whew! It is finally starting to cool off here. Now, the highs are tolerable and the lows make the days cool again. The mornings and evenings are so nice now. Jared will love going outside to play and his new trike will get many miles on it :)

Jared and I just took a walk around the neighborhood this morning. He LOVES getting outside. He listens and watches for airplanes, birds and neighborhood dogs. He also loved watching the lawn maintenance people trim a neighbor’s lawn :) Ahhhh, the cooler days of autumn are fast approaching!

Another Haircut

Jared is due for another haircut. I forget how many haircuts he has had now :) He looks like a scruffy little boy. His haircut will be just in time for his second trip to North Dakota. Gotta look dapper for Grampy, Grammy, aunts, uncles and cousins :)

Our first web log!

Yes, we are "with it" by having a blog :) I thought it would be cool to have this. That way, family and friends all across the US can read up on Paul, Maria and Jared. Sounds like fun?
